Behind The Scene of MIFA 2011

This year Malaysia International Fashion Week MIFA 2011 presenting Malaysian big names in fashion industry. Tom Abang Saufi, Amir Luqman, Jovian Mandagie, and other Malaysian fashion players participated MIFA 2011.From behind the scene of MIFA 2011, Fcendvsyu Design plays a big role by representing for Pink Jambu. My wife consulting for Pink Jambu to cross over the runaway for Islamic Fashion Show MIFA 2011.

Islamic fashion is a growing trend in Middle East as well as in Malaysia. Headgear style for Muslim ladies with modern application for their falls, makes Islamic Fashion stands in the same row with other fashion style in the world.

It is not a reason for today Muslim for not to have a style. Even with hijjab, a Muslim still can be different and outstanding. For her, to create a new trend for wearing hijjab as a style for these models was not an easy job.

Using pins, tarbush, and combination of fabric to create such a focal point for a headgear.Her passion to style model became a great memorable experience for this year Islamic Fashion Show MIFA.

These outfit is ready to wear from Pink Jambu Collection, and from collaboration of Pink Jambu Team and Fcendvsyu Design doing the styling job for participating this event.Mix and match from line of latest collection of Pink Jambu.With a level of taste open the eyes of all Islamic Fashion user in Malaysia that urban lady Muslim also can have own style in daily wear. Corporate Songket From Local Machine

After years searching for machine songket producer all over asia, finally this research comes into a happy ending. For the first time in Malaysia this machine produced pieces of machinemade songket with complete operationing team. Above is the picture of colored threads, it is as the same process as traditional method in making songket. Previously this machine had been brought in by Kraftangan in Terengganu, but from what I could see it has been left without any use. They said that they need special (proffessional) operators for it. Yes offcourse every machine need narrow specialize operator.This machine has been imported for our producer in Felda Chini, and finally Felda created a production of songket and tenun fabric here. As the same old process the threads will be sorted in the sorting machine before inserted to the machine. Why machine? Why dont we keep the originality of handmade? These questions lead me to this reseach when a client wants me to create a songket for a special gift which has the client's own identity. How could I find a production with minimal of cost, without going out off Malaysia that can produced a special design songket (with company logo on it) and produce in big number of quantity? Below is the picture of the threads being pulled in the machine slot.We seldom offered to design special songket and fabric with company logo for gifts, however we always failed when it come to production. The process stop of this limited sources in our country, when we outsource the price will be rediculous for our client. Above is the full view of the machine, operated by one operator for each machine.The design was done earlier in the computer using graphic software. Then the design will be transfered into blocks as below.One of the operator is operating the machine.

This machine can produce approximate 20 meters for 24 hours operating, comparing the manual machine will produce 20 meters for 30 days of operating.It can produce in various colors and specifications depends on clients requests. And the price can be as low as rm250 per piece. Cost and effectiveness always come first in today and future products. Offcourse the originality of Handmade will remain. We must always respect our herritage originality and never left it behind, however to sustain our herritage, I think this is the best way to compete in the future market. Let us support our Songket to a new life in a better solution for the future.

A Taste Of Our Prime Minister Batik Design

Greetings to all viewers! and welcome to new followers of fcendvsyudesign! Thanks for supporting my design blog! In order to satisfy clients, squeezing designer's brain into pieces to create a great impact not only for our own satisfaction but for the viewers all over the country, news, and it will remain sticky in peoples mind and heart. Developing the batik design from above logo, given to me for last year event held in Putrajaya.Turning all over the globe to invent, sketch by sketch had been submitted and amended. This is the sample of the batik canting on silk fabric in all black with the Iktiraf stroke logo. The final color that had been chosen by our Prime Minister was orange and black.

Surprisingly when this batik become shirt it was so outstanding piece of batik in its own class. I can see the color reflects a bright glow and makes a refreshing feel to people that wear this design. All the VIPs looks so happy to wear fcendvsyu.

I always remind myself to design an impact that stick to peoples heart, and I guess this design with the colors create an impulse to bring the happiness and lively for the whole event, and I believe this design was successful. Until we meet again for the next update! and have a nice day!

Figure Hand Sketch

Her figure hand sketch is very fast and simple. She only need a couple of minutes to fill it up. From nothing, using only pencil colors, art marker, and pen, she managed to realize a nice simple sketch.

As a Fashion Designer, my wife sketch hundreds of figure in a month! Her ideas came out like there is never ending story, when she grab a piece of paper at any place and any moment she can clear it out our client's request for their wedding dress or a line of design for their fashion house.

I love to see hows it grows, the flair of her sketch strokes makes me feels like the clock are stop clicking.

When any client tells her whats in their mind of what and how, i just smile and see she visualizing it very quick. And that give me an idea to grab my camera and make a shoot.
Her touch on the figure detailing out the face area, i love the hair falls, and every time she had a figure it would never be with the same hair.
I would say this one was an unfinished hand sketch, playing with the quality of line and with minimal color added, its like a lazy sketch but for me it is so interesting. And this is how fashion designer really makes money!

2nd Place of The Best Pavilion MAHA2010

Squeezing my head to create a big pavilion for FELDA that participating MAHA 2010 was a satisfaction. This Asia's larges agriculture event held from 26th November until 5th December at Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS). This pavilion won 2nd place for the best pavilion contest!This 9 x 18 metres pavilion standing from the maximum 5 metres height. The mess for me was to include almost all the subsidiaries of FELDA into this area. With the concept of 'process flow' which bringing the crowd into a flow that explaining the process of how FELDA flows in an unique economic chain.As you can see the 3 dimensional was built up to conclude the mess situation before the construction work.The construction were done partially at our factory, and the joining and finishing at the actual location.This giant pavilion took 2 days to be joint perfectly and took about 12 workers.Most of the walls were covered if information posters and they were not painted.The most exiting part of the pavilion for me is this tunnel, it is loaded with information of FELDA's subsidiaries.The whole view of the mess.On the top is a information tower that I designed based from FELDA's new tower that still under construction. This tower is really significant to the future of Felda's community. I purposely attached the picture of Felda old houses and the new houses so that people can realize how far that this community had been developed.Below is the tunnel.The build in aquarium also attract audience to this pavilion. Finally this pavilion had become an image of FELDA, I do really hope to improve my pavilion design also for others pavilion that I design for, to deliver the message clearly and to create an impact for the organization or company image through booth and pavilion. Pewter Brooch

After a short visit to Felda Tenggaroh 4, I have collected some brooches that has potential to be market. The brooches had a great workmanship, and the prices are really good. It could be done in volume and the finishing will be in gold or silver plated. All the brooches were made by our metal production center in Tenggaroh.The first sample is the Butterfly Brooches, these butterflies had its own nice presentation. Above Butterfly Brooch is directly designed based from a butterfly, but below is more aesthetic of a butterfly value.Organic subject matter is a favorite of all, leave design is applied in almost all item in this world, however Leaves Brooch is one of the most sell able brooch.I had collected five kind of Leaves Brooches that had their own leaves value each.Below are the Flower Brooches.Those are two type of large flower brooch.Below are a Rose Brooch plated with gold. It is quite small and very nice. Collections of small Flower Brooches.The Hibiscus Brooch is symbolize as Malaysian Spirit, since hibiscus is the Malaysian National Flower. Rather than organic shape, this Violin Tie Clip plated with gold is very eye catching among all. This violin can also be done in brooch. However the Malay Old Brooch pattern, are also been re-done. Below are two old Malay kind of brooch design that had copied and re fabricated as to maintain the classic design.

Developing Premium Pewter Tableware Set

The task of developing a premium product is not consider done yet until I manage to complete the set with the packaging. This premium set of tissue box, coaster, and napkin holder comes with a premium wooden packaging with a smooth suede finishing inside.To fit in these 3 items (coaster, tissue box, and napkin holder) in a box for a set of 12 pieces is a really tricky job although it looks very simple. First thing that I decide is to hands on the task to the right producer with the right job. The wooden box is made by our wooden maker in Felda Kemahang Kelantan which the measurements given by me, and the compartment inside was done by me and covered by our fabric and box production in Felda Trolak Selatan Perak.Basically at least 3 craft productions participate for the developing of this premium set, this pewter tissue box (up) and this pewter napkin holder (below) and also pewter coaster was made by our metal production in Felda Tenggaroh 4 Johore, all items was plated in gold and also silver.

All the items are 1 pieces of pewter tissue box, 12 pieces of pewter coaster, and 12 pieces of pewter napkin holder, comes with a wooden carved box with compartment inside that covered with suede finishing. After I decide the arrangment for all items, I cut a board to make the actual tempelate.Below is the picture of the actual tempelate made of 2mm mounting board that had perfectly cut.Then I put it on a piece of 2cm polysterine as below.Next the polysterine was cut using the electric cutter following the tempelate.Until I get the same size of the actual tempelate as below.I double up the polysterine to 4cm and fit in the items as the picture below.
Then the polysterine was send to the production to be covered with suede.At the same time I purposely send the same measurement to the other production in Kelantan to make the wooden box to fit in the polysterine.When both production done, I simply fit in the polysterine into the wooden box.
Now the box is ready with compartments to fit in the coasters and all items.I purposely arrage 8 pieces of the napkin holder to be standing, and 4 pieces of it stay lying in order to control the size of the whole box, otherwise the box will be too big and it might be very heavy, in this matter of developing products all subject must be count in, the total weight, the size, practicallity, and offcourse the cost.Finally I fit in the tissue box neatly.
Thats it, this Premium Pewter Tableware set is ready. This premium item was purposely design for gifts at any occasion for the VVIP, latety one set of it was given to the Sultanah of Johore during the visit of 'Kembara Mahkota Johor' in Felda Kledang, Johore Bahru Region.

The Keris Enhancement

The Keris is unique in form and function. It is at once a beautiful work of art and a menacing implement of war. A keris is usually equipped with a hilt (hulu), a dongkok (a metal cup at the base of the hilt) and a sheath (sarung). This special keris was given by a great keris collector in Alor Star for me to refurnish it with metals parts and fittings.Almost all old keris Melayu have hilts in a design known as "ayam teleng". The hilt is held at an angle with the blade, which gives it a horizontal stabbing position. This is ideal for stabbing an opponent in the chest area as the position allows the blade to pass between the ribs and straight to the lungs or heart. This feature also serves certain ritualistic functions. Below is the picture of the hilt part which had been covered by metal at the nose part of it.The blade of this keris was made off old metal. Usually it is forged from at least three types of metal, including iron and nickel to make the blade strong and sharp. Some of the older blades are even springy and do not break easily. However, keris blades are often brittle, and may break if hit with another weapon. The blade is the most important part of a keris.The Blade parts itself translated a lot meanings, all parts have it own names and functions, it was designed with detail and very deep in value. The blade of the keris represents the shape of a dragon, which is closely connected to water and rivers. Water is the source of life, thus the dragon is a mystical life form that represents power. A keris with no waves represents a resting or meditating dragon, while a wavy keris represents a moving dragon. The 'belalai gajah' and 'lambai gajah' represents and elephant, which is an allegory for power.The 'Sampir' (crosspiece) of this keris is made from an kemuning wood, and it houses the wide part of the blade. The below picture is the metal fitting that had been done to fit between the 'sampir' and the 'batang' parts. Below is the 'batang' part which is the main housing for the blade. The 'batang' usually made of sena wood. However this part was nicely covered with metal linings which enhancing this long part of wood.Below is the 'buntut' (end) part of the keris, it was made of different kind of wood which is called 'Kemuning Hitam'. From my own point of view this part should not being covered by metal carving as it has it's own specialty, so i decided to cover only from the upper part of it. Below picture was taken after it was perfectly done. The 'buntut' protects the end of the sheath and also as a butt cap. The picture below is Mr. Rosli Tahir, he is the silversmiths of this keris parts. He is one of the silversmiths in Kota Bharu Kelantan. Mr. Rosli Tahir or known as Pok Li had been in silversmiths industry since 1950, and one of the earliest members of 'Kelantan Malay Art' which is now undertaken by 'Kraftangan Malaysia'.Pok Li is a professional in traditional silver carving, his workmanship is very fine and the art of his carving has its own identity and specialty. Below he showed me some of his sketches for me to decide how to decorate the fittings of this keris.This is before this keris had been enhanced with metals finish and fittings.

From below picture you can see after it was greatly done by Pok Li. Today the keris is depicted as a symbol, it can be seen on an obverse copper-zinc-tin RM1 coin with a songket pattern in the background. Since the independence of Malaysia, the keris has become something of a symbol of Malay Nationalism. It is still regarded by some as a symbol of Ketuanan Melayu, the doctrine of Malay as the dominant race. However it is up to us the new generations to take our part to maintain this valuable symbol for the next 1000 years. Thanks for visiting my blog and very happy to have such a great follower here!

Colorful Batik Canting

It is so interesting when we had a chance to learn how to canting a batik. By a help from a professional batik maker Mr. Hamdan Hasmadi, to teach us the basic in canting batik.The one day canting class was held in Felda Soeharto which stated in Hulu Selangor, and the purpose was to spread knowledge in canting and also to catch interest among the participant here. Surprisingly some of them were good and talented in canting even though this is the first time for them in canting batik.First step of learning process in batik was sketching motives as flowers.Then they should know how to handle and use canting. Its quite easy when Mr.Hamdan first showed how to canting.But then to try your 'first time canting' should be on a paper!Then they go on real cotton.I was really surprise to see the participants were so easy doing the canting. can you believe it was their first time?Now goes to the best part, which is coloring!They learned so fast even though some of them didn't like canting before!And now I can see that they love doing canting.Just see the result. How they are so passion in canting their own batik. I'm so impress of what they all had done today.
In the meanwhile, me and Hafiz (the other designer) took our own effort to create an artwork in canting. Hafiz and me sketch directly on a piece of cotton stretcher and apply canting. I'm coloring some blue and we didn't even planned how will this batik is going to be.

Finally we end up like this! Not a good work, just a good try for a first time learner! Mr. Hamdan Hasmadi is a well known batik artist in Malaysia, his canting work is very fine and had its own identity. Hamdan has his own special techniques in making batik, difference from others batik maker. Hamdan batik is so alive, as the composition and colors he applied really catching eyes.

Hamdan batik works also published in local batik magazine as to show that Hamdan work is alive in Malaysia's batik industry.

Perspective View Shop Layout

At the earliest post when fcendvsyu was appointed to create and develop one stop kiosk for FAMA, it continues to another project for FAMA which playing with bigger square feet. This time fcendvsyu designed a proposal 3 dimensional perspective view for a cafe style outlet of FAMA. This one stop outlet with cafe provided simple frying foods and cold drinks. The main objective is to sell FAMA's local producer foods products such as chips and frozen foods.

Here goes the same with FELDA, which prefered more stylish and comfy corner cafe, with the same intention to promote and market FELDA's local products and at the same time spreading information about Felda's products. This innovative idea sparked after our Prime Minister campaign to all government sectors to be more aggressive for the next 50 years of Malaysia.

However this impression was sketched by fcendvsyu as proposal, will see if both FELDA and FAMA realizing this into reality, and if it is yes let us support or local food producer like being one of the regular customer!

Rebuilding The Kedah Traditional House

I was really surprise to see a new rebuild of rumah traditional Kedah on my visit to the north side of Malaysia. This traditional house of Kedah is located in Alor Star and had been restructured by 'Anak Arshad Architect', a well known architect firm in Kedah.Above is the original picture of this house when first 'Anak Arshad' bought it. It was very old and for me it needs more then a spirit to made it alive back! From the picture I can tell that it is almost impossible to rebuild it, but 'Anak Arshad' dare to take the challenge.From the outside of the house, i can see this house still remain it's original structure but most of the wall parts is new. Below we can see the artistry of welcoming by using slippers (wooden steps from old railways).This slippers were bought somewhere in Alor Star, and I really like it!The wooden stairs were nicely done with original style in structuring the slanting post. This is the entrance of this house, the transparent yellow glass on the left and right side of the entrance is such an interesting part of this house.Below is the welcome settee area, classic wooden chair and round wooden table in between. Here goes some picture of this house and some memories of Alor Star town.Although this is a traditional house, it is completely equipped with modern facilities, this nice pantry was located at a corner in the living area, what a perfect composition in the combination of modern and traditional.The living area is also using additional lighting.This is the access to the room area, as we can see this house is full of traditional motifs at the top of the window and doors, it was named 'Kekisi'.The 'Kekisi' is one of the important part of a Malay traditional house, it is like a must and kekisi has it own function for the house.Usually kekisi will be located on the top of a window or door, the reason is to let wind pass through a room or any part of the house. This is the way for to keep this house in low temperature. Other than that kekisi also decorates the house with motifs that creates identity of the house.Below is the close up of the transparent yellow glass. This glass is textured by classic motifs and it is also has it's own function for the house. It is to makes the house glow by using natural lighting, without electricity back in the old days our designers create solutions to lighten up interiors and also to keep the house in cool temperature.This is called 'Tiang Tunjuk Langit'. It is a wooden post as the structure part of traditional Kedah house. This house need four tiang tunjuk langit to hold the roof of this house. This post is the original part from the old house. The bathroom really create calm mood, when I entered this area i feel so cosy with the combination of modern tiles and woody wall part of it. Terracotta canister also decorates this bathroom.Equipped with water heater.This is one of an Malay aesthetic that remain and still standing in this millennium years. Credits and big applause should be given to 'Anak Arshad Architect' for efforts in keeping this valuable memories to be seen by the next generations. And the most impressively this house is used for homestay, if you guys wish to stay a couple of night in Alor Star just inform me for contacts. 'Kiosk Design For FAMA'

This small 8x10 feet kiosk was designed by me last December, and had start operating on 1st January 2010. This design was requested for FAMA to be install in Tesco Ipoh. So I did a sketch for them and submitted to be approved.

'Felda Pavillion for IKTIRAF Youth Programme'

'The Best Land for The Best People' was said by Malaysia's 2nd Prime Minister, Tun Abdul Razak, quoted from the book titled 'Raja Muhammad Alias, The Architech of Felda'. Inspired me to design this Felda pavilion booth for the IKTIRAF programme. 'Ikatan Hati Warga Felda' or stands for 'IKTIRAF' is a youth programme organized by SERANTA FELDA, cooperate with UiTM and FELDA generates the new wave of the young generations of Felda. As usual my job is to create Felda booth and ensure that the information delivered.This event was held in UiTM Shah Alam on the 18th - 20th December 2009, As usual me and my team spend the whole night there to decorate. Below is the picture of Nazrin helping me arranging the setting of Felda products and informative artifacts.Below is Hafiz Razak arranging the centre decoration. The concept of this informative booth is to deliver the concept of 'Felda Past, Present, and Future'. So we manage to set up an area to display the artifacts accordingly.This is the wall poster that I designed to show the public of the current Felda comparing the past black and white poster. Both posters were blow up and pasted on the wall as picture below. Below is Malaysia's Prime Minister looking at the poster that designed by me.This is the model of the Felda Tower, it had been launched last year and scheduled to be ready on 2014. Felda Tower is build near The Twin Towers and named as 'The Platinum Park' in cooperated with Naza Properties. In order to display the 'Future of Felda' we decided to take out this beautiful mock up and for the first time to be viewed to public.Other than that, Feldajaya Housing models also displayed. And below is a close up of the 'Perumahan Warga Peneroka' that will be construct soon in Felda lands. The difference of this booth from previous booth, that we presenting our designed Tenun Chini product in fashion show. My wife coordinates this fashion show teaching catwalk for non professional models which is from Felda staff. This is the rehearsal for them, all 13 models were dressed in Tenun Chini and walk in the runaways. This couple wearing a set of traditional Malay wedding suit made of Tenun Chini fabric. Behind the curtain Roshidi helping Mustaza (the model) wearing the songket. Above is before and below is after.Finally this event came to the finishing, everyone was happy with the show, and I was very happy of the feedback. '3D Perspective For Warisan Borong Concept Store'

When a person came to me last month, he requested me to do the presentation work for him to restructure an 11,200 square feet area in an old shopping mall in Bukit Bintang, I intend to do the best for him during the minimal period of time that he provided. As a 3 dimensional job is not and easy thing to be done, I work it out night and day to full fill his need. Below is the current situation of the floor in this shopping mall. This shop lots will be reconstruct to the 'Warisan Borong' concept store. 'Warisan Borong' is a big producer and supplier of Malaysian wooden crafts and furniture products, you guys can visit 'Warisan Borong' at www.warisanborong.com .Their concept is to maintain the wooden style and antiques. Below is the picture of the entrance of this floor.He requested me to maintain their concept and built and wooden arch at the entrance, from their explanation for this area, I create this perspective of view for him.At the centre of this huge floor, he also requested me to sketch a beverages kiosk, from warisan borong concept i design this square kiosk island. However this was at the stage of a designers perspective view, the exact measurements will be done by the contractor after this concept and design proposal is completed.

Below is the view from the outside through the entrance of the floor.

The unique of this floor when I was requested to draw a stage, this stage will be located in front of the entrance of this floor. It must be really cool when people walk around and shopping while activities like traditional dances or shows concurrently held during the business hour. However, to realize this paperwork need a good contractor to construct. Finally I would like to wish him good luck for the presentation and thanks for the job and really happy to work with 'Warisan Borong'.

'One Malaysia' Tie Design

Back to work after a month of rest, this task was given to me to design a 'One Malaysia' tie. Malaysia's Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib has officially launch this campaign all over the country to burn the nationality spirit to unite as ONE family. This sparked the idea to design products and souvenir from '1Malaysia' logo. The 'One Malaysia' tie is a perspective of idea that maybe can be produce as an official item for this campaign.

The first set that i had illustrated was quite near with the '1Malaysia' logo, which combining 'Jalur Gemilang' (Malaysia's Flag) and the numb '1'. The colors that had been used which is red, blue, yellow and white are the colors of 'Jalur Gemilang'.

So I manage to wide up a little bit of ideas to try not to use the color of Malaysia's Flag and less the use of the '1Malaysia' logo. Above are the second set of 'One Malaysia' tie design that quite simple comparing the first one.

After all the third design will be the most suitable of all on my opinion, since this set was nicely blend the '1Malaysia' logo with the suitable color from 'Jalur Gemilang', and off course a nice composition with simple statement. As easier for the production side to produce with less production cost. Last but not lease I'm not sure if any of us would like to purchase and wear this tie to work...anyone?

Designer's Wedding

Our wedding ceremony was held on the 10th October 2009. It was done in Seremban Negeri Sembilan which is at my wife family's house. I named this ceremony as the 'Designer's Wedding' as we both were designers and the most interesting when the important part of the wedding is designed and done by both of us (me and my wife). Even the invitation card was designed by us and we had cut and paste 1500 pcs of this invitation card!Other than that, in Malay, we have wedding gifts which is to be gift to both part. Husband will gift to hes wife and vice verse. Normally the wife will return her gift to the husband extra of two gifts. Below is a set of make up the i gift to her, we design our own platform and also the decoration and arrangement for all the gifts set.First off all we choose the material that suits the color of our wedding concept which is white, pink and silver. She choose the nice quilt fabric that had a layer of sponge inside, it was really nice fabric.All the boxes were done by us together. We even used house wall paper for this platform boxes.

Below is the display for our wedding ring also done by us.The close up of the ring.her gifts to me was gold range of color, the platform was covered with Burrberry's checkers design material as i'm a fan of Burrberry.Below is the perfume set.This is the set for my office attire.And this one is for casual attire.Below are some other display that i gave to her handbags and clutch.Patchi chocolate that she gave to me.And off course the Quran exclusively for her.But that was not the end of the story, behind the scene of the beautiful ceremony, we had a great experience in doing our own wedding setting which is called 'pelamin' in Malay. 'Pelamin' is where both bride and bridegroom sit together and wait to be blessed by all the family members.We had designed and done it by our own. The reason was we really wanted our own touch for our wedding setting. Only ourselves can satisfied both of us. We create a simple wedding setting that we can make us easy to handle it. We bought all the needed material like organza, sponge, paint and others. The wooden part we design and measure and let the carpenter built based from our drawing, then our job is the finishing of it. The sponge were pasted on the plywood panel to create the spongy effect.Then it was covered with a thick silky fabric that stretch at every corners.Then we make a marking for to put on the studded.Then make a hole using drill to tied the studded from behind.Here goes the chrome studded tied from behind the panel wood.Now you can see the ready panel with nine chrome studds on it. on the top of this wedding setting, we had a metal rail that done by the metal guy. I measure this metal rail and illustrate for him and this is the result. What we going to do is a flow of fabric draped from the rail to the centre of it.It was not an easy job, we ended up draping at 4.30 am!and the final touch.Below you can see before the setting is done.and after it was done perfectly.This synthetic flower was arrange by us in a tall glass tube vase the we bought.This bench was originally in black color, we then sew up the cover that made of white vinyl and cover up another layer off synthetic white fur. It was really hard to find white vinyl bench here.This chandelier was also not in white, we decided to repaint ourselves this chandelier and bought crystals and hang it up to enhance this chandelier. Now it looks nicer!The red carpet was in pink. We bought 12 metres long pink carpet and decided to spread up synthetic flower petals along it. Here goes cutting the flower and paste it on.the pink carpet was done before the setting.Theres a lot more minor arrangement that had done by us. The reason to do by our own was we really wanted the people who came to feel our own touch. Only ourselves will satisfy us, and this is the only moment for us to use our own ideas and creativity for people to appreciate it.Finally the ceremony was really happening and successful! all the crowd were really happy, i can see they really appreciate our design and touch! Shanghai Shots

I was a representative for FELDA in the Malaysian Delegates for One Village One Product (OVOP) 2008 that was held in Changzhou province in China. Arrived in Shanghai International Airport takes about 2 hours departing from KLIA. At first i was thinking in mind, if i could visit or visualizing Chinese Arts and Design elements that would be a great experience for me in my designing perspective of view. Below is most favorite place in Shanghai named Nanjing Road.However the degates moved to another city name Changzhou, it takes about 4 hours with bus ride from Shanghai Pudong International Airport. China is a very big piece of land, every houses has their own huge compound for them to grow crops or anything. I can see that they live by farming to generates their economy.Proud to see Malaysian National Car 'Proton Gen2' billboard along the highway to Changzhou.Arriving Tianmu Lake Hotel in Tianmu province.Surprisingly this room is only for me, alone with two beds. Nice bedroom with five star accommodation.However the Tianmu Lake Hotel still maintain the craft elements, i found this classic wooden sofa set at the entrance of this hotel dining hall. Fine workmanship with high end quality finishing, i can't recognize what kind of wood that this settee made off.The tea served for us is a green leaf tea, as we all know that Chinese is well known in healthy meals.Below is the view of the Tianmu Lake Hotel in the night time.Then we find out some nice places to go shopping in the middle of the night at the town nearby. Armani imitation bags and others designers imitation product is just a lot there.Fashionable shoes and dress is quite good here.The next morning we visit some of the nice places in Changzhou city. In front of the hotel the delegates gather in the mist of cloudy scenery.China is one of the best in producing silk, the China Silk is very fine and this visit reminds me to Thailand Silk which i have visited the productions in Chiangmai before.As what i can see, China technology is different, the workmanship also not the same as Thai Silk. China is the most biggest silk producer in the world, they made it in a big scale using huge machine of producing silk and half of the finishing done by handmade.The cocoons.the below machine complete the silk threads process until printing the patterns of the silk. You can see the design roll below this machine as the woven process into silk fabric and directly roll down the design prints the silk. That was fast.The best part of the delegates is...shopping! but not for me...Because i enjoy the Fashion Show of the Silk end products on the runaway.After all we had a great lunch at a Muslim restaurant named Beijiang.The Chinese Rock Garden is and art of landscaping. Like Indonesian, the Balinese style is a must in the trends of modern interior and landscapes, But today i found that Chinese also had their own identity in their interior and landscaping. In the modern way we can refer to Zen style of living which define a minimal way and styling interior design of Chinese concept living.Not just the rock garden, there are still a lot of buildings here still using the old Chinese building in a modern way.

Gosh they really like red as a symbol of wealthy.

From my overall perspective view, China is a great industrial country, Shanghai City really big comparing to Kuala Lumpur, their towers are thousands filling the land of Shanghai, the roads and highways were almost perfect that i can't even feel any hump or holes on the streets. But the people still maintain as basic as they can, they still producing their originality like their silk from their older generation. And it is getting bigger into a big industry, this growing energy that must be followed by us to keep our native arts and production like our Songket, we must have stronger capability in producing the Songket fabric. Other than that we must have the strenghness in supplying our products worldwide like China export tons of their fabric arround the world yearly. 'Pucuk Rebung Motif'

'Pucuk Rebung' is an original Malay motif that had been used for long time ago and still applying it as a traditional Malay Motif. 'Pucuk Rebung' is a fauna motif that influence by the 'Rebung' which is known as bamboo shoots. Bamboo shoots are the edible shoots (new bamboo culms that come out of the ground) of bamboo species Bambusa vulgaris and Phyllostachys edulis. They are used in numerous Malay dishes and broths. Below are some close up of a bamboo shoots.'Pucuk Rebung' motif is very famous in songket making, a lot of songket makers use 'Pucuk Rebung' as their trade marks in designing songket textile.Various kind of 'Pucuk Rebung' motif can be found in songket pattern, but as you can see the motifs are specifically in a triangle shape. What ever the designer ideas to create a 'Pucuk Rebung' motif it must be in a triangle. Below is the picture of 'Rebung Tower' which one off unique building in Kuala Lumpur that influence by the 'Pucuk Rebung'. Building with 55 floors with 310 meter (1017ft) high, represent the sprouting of the bamboo shoot and this TM tower located at the side of Federal Highway Kuala Lumpur. From textile, foods and even architecture influencing 'Pucuk Rebung' as the main attractive create an idea for me to apply 'Pucuk Rebung' in my designs. This 'Pucuk Rebung' motif was actually combination of two pucuk rebung, from a triangle now in a diamond shape of pucuk rebung motif. From this design, we had applied it on many kind of products in Felda Crafts products.Designer Hafiz lately had applied it on a plain shirt, i think it this shirt is really cool enough to representing Malaysia in a new way. The 'Pucuk Rebung' printed on it will explain everything.My favorite is to embroid 'Pucuk Rebung' cushions, small and big size, playing with apple green and sometimes purple. This is an idea to represent the traditional in a more modern living style.We also produce red pucuk rebung bed sheets.After tired with the fabrics I intend to move to other material like glass, now let see the effect when I applied the motif on a glass bowl. It was sandblasted by Mr. Shamsudin from Felda Sg.Sibol Glass Production.

The Glass table design by me. The latest in the lane is printed black and white umbrella designed by Hafiz! We don't say that traditional is so yesterday, but our mission is to bring traditional into international market that suite younger taste so that generations can know traditional motif as well in the modern years of future design. Its like the famous Malay words, 'Melentur Buluh Biar Dari Rebungnya', which means that to create a good or better future, we must do it from the root.

House Renovation In Progress

Hye Guys! its been a while i didn't update here, my schedule is kinda tight this month, preparing for the coming 'Wellness Industry' exhibition that will be held starting this 23rd until 26th of July. Today i am posting the renovation activity that had been done at a client house. This renovation had been done by my uncle Rahman, he is a freehand designer for his own company that renovates office, houses and landscapes. Yes i always collaborate with him in designing interior and renovating houses, we always exchange ideas and doing research together for better and latest outcome. This previously single story house (now double story) is located in Petaling Jaya, i can say it is an old house since it was built at early 80's. This house had been done a major renovation! from zero to hero. It is not a corner lot house that's why this owner Mrs. Adibah needs to play with serious space management, and that's is uncle Rahman's expertise.To separate the extended hall into two section, uncle Rahman raised up the floor at about one and a half feet and the flooring is covered perfectly with wooden floor. This wooden floor area is for dining section, the wooden floor will absolutely changing our mood when stepping on it.The most favorite of me is the ceiling, different with normal plaster ceiling, he stylized the ceiling into a modern concept with down light at four of the corners and extra yellow lights that shadowing the upper side of the ceiling, that's cool.Now lets us take a look at the kitchen area. The idea is to play with black and red for this kitchen, as u can see the tile is already in black but the cabinet will be built in red, still not ready to be install yet. Below you can see the serving area that separating both kitchen and dining area, how i wish to show you guys when the cabinet is ready!This is the breakfast table, it was built connecting with the serving table, all in black tiles. And the flooring also designed following the steps to enter the kitchen area. This area is lower then the dining area, means that another two steps down.This bowl in the above picture as you can see is beside the serving table and facing the dining area. I love the water tap. Now let me bring you to the bathroom, just playing with black and white tiles, simply done and so nice.This is the shower area, it will be covered with glass door. Stepping in this area will forcing me stepping on the pebbles, while taking the shower the owner can step on the pebbles for foot massage, what a great idea.The white tiles on the side wall reflects at the big mirror enlighten the whole bathroom and makes the space looks bigger. Above is the picture of the master bedroom, located at the ground floor and perfectly colored in light warm grey. The owner likes the 3 pieces window that lowered down at almost reach the floor.The wooden door were painted in white, it is the main entrance for this room. And the white sliding fold door is the entrance to the bathroom. The materials chosen for this house is in high standard, even the switches are from the high quality specs.Now lets us go the upstairs! the stairs is finish in white tiles and the wall is painted yellowish orange.Even the stairs holder is built and covered with tilings.This is the upstairs bathroom, playing with red and black tiles.Now lets see the children's room. The cat fight between Adibah's two daughter choosing their favorite color for the room, makes both of the color is painted in this room! light pink and light purple.There you go the small space outside the bedroom area painted green as requested! The landscape is still an progress, the idea here is to make small Balineese style landscape playing with wood and terracotta. I cant wait to see this house done perfectly and really hope to get a chance to post it here. Landscape Workout For 'Hari Peneroka Felda 09'

After 7 weeks I left Felda Maokil with my landscape drawings, I put a hope that all my imaginations for the piece of land grew up as what I mention through the sketches. Finally when i arrived again in Felda Maokil on 5th July 09, I open my eyes for a very beautiful touch of arrangement on a piece of land here! I'm so glad that my first time landscaping idea had been successfully done in a very nice composition. The stepping stone that had been combine with stone pebbles, playing with white and grey stones enhancing a cool feel to this area. The small square pond size at 2x4 feet, made of poly tank then covered with wood framing. This is the most efficient small pond with low cost and less maintenance. Water circulation from a small 3 stage waterfall made of terracotta. Below is the view of the house from the outside.

The vegetables were compound in many kind, such as compositing natural stones colored in white as picture below.Some of the vegetables are composed as a 'Vege Sculpture' in a nice terracotta bowl. This idea was occurred by the Mr. Rosli Abu with his landscape crew.

Wooden compound is used to raise up the land to grow the vegetables. This compound is so clean and really easy to manage the crops. My pergola idea to hang the vegetables is done nicely by the landscape crew, the even grew a bunch of chili surrounding the pergola area which is a nice combination.

Below is Mr. Rosli Abu the landscape artist is finishing the pebbles work before the launching day of the 'Hari Peneroka Felda 09'. He is a great landscaper and i really enjoy working with him. I really hope to cooperate more in landscaping with him after this and together we can through more ideas in landscape and create our own identity in landscaping every houses in Malaysia!

Pewter For Our Prime Minister

This coming 7th July 2008, 'Hari Peneroka Felda 09' will be held in Felda Maokil Segamat Johore. At the same time Felda launch the 'Edible Garden' Campaign there, a monument to our Prime Minister for sparking the idea of 'Edible Garden' we represented this special pewter 'Chili Tree'. Below is our Prime Minister at the soft lunching of 'edible garden' in Dewan Perdana Felda. This 'Edible Garden' programme is organize by Felda to encourage our settlers to plant vegetables especially Chili Kulai in their house compound as a beautiful landscape.This lovely pewter is made by Royal Selangor, specially invented for this programme. It was done by casting and mould and the chili is painted red. Below are some of the close up of this chili tree.The whole size of this item is 27 inch wide x 34 inch height. Its quite big and needs two people to carry this thing. Its also comes with the box, below photo shows the standing frame of this pewter tree in the wood box. The Emblem of this item written that this is a souvenir for Y.A.B DATO' SRI MOHD NAJIB BIN TUN HAJI ABDUL RAZAK, Perdana Menteri Malaysia, as a remembrance of Hari Peneroka Felda 2009 in Felda Maokil Segamat Johor (7th July 2008). Will this monument remain in his Gallery as one of national history.

The Art Of Resin

Resin had been used by humans for long time ago, Pine pitch is a type of natural resin that has been used to seal boats, mummies, food containers, and an assortment of other things. Resin is a natural or synthetic compound which begins in a highly viscous state and hardens with catalyst treatment. Resin will not soluble in water, but will soluble in alcohol. There are a number of different classes of resin, depending on exact chemical composition and potential uses. There are numerous applications for resins, ranging from art to polymer production, and many consumers interact with products which contain resin on a daily basis. Above is a vase made of stone that covered with resin design by us in 2006 for Modern Malaysian Handicraft. The vase's base is from acrylic sheet and the surface is covered with black pebbles hold by resin and layering the outer surface of the pebbles.This resin products idea was started by Mr. Warwick Purser from Out Of Asia, He is the one who introduced to us. During our visit to p.t. Out of Asia in Tembi village down in the state of Yogyakarta, that was in 2006 before the big earthquake of Indonesia that vanish most of Tembi. We take the chance to sit down and learn a lot of handicraft productions, developing products, skills and techniques in fabricating craft products, and one of the most exiting for us to learn is resin.Above is Nazrin one of our designer team. He is studying the texture of one of Warwick Purser's collections. As what I have been through, this material (resin) is unlimited in designing and developing, it can be used in any combination of other natural or even another synthetic materials. It can be combine with coconut shell, pearl, bamboo, tamarind, and also herbs like cinnamon. And the results will be different with different materials, that's makes this resin more interesting. Below is some collections of resin products from Mr. Warwick's shelf. Above picture is a sample of photo frame that made of cinnamon collection from Bali wood art culture.

Pak Fajar Harsana is one of Mr. Warwick's craft maker, Pak Fajar Harsana is an expert in resin craft making. He teach us a lot in skills and techniques in handling resin to fabricate resin products. Above is the picture of Pak Fajar Harsana teaching me to make a product that combining resin with pandanus leaf. The first square shows him cutting the fibreglass matt into pieces then the next picture showing him going to swipe the first layer of resin.When i came to Pak Fajar Harsana resin workshop, i see the students of Pak Fajar Harsana filling the first layer of resin on to the silicon mould of a 'resin leaf' product. Below is a picture of a Tembi's youth that really focus in filling the resin at the silicon mould. The resin had been colored red to outcome the effect of reddish light from this transparency leaf. Above picture shows one of Pak Fajar Harsana students cutting the fibreglass. Fibreglass is used as the structure of the product, without fibreglass the resin leaf will not strong enough and can be easily crack or broke. The fibreglass only can be attach to the leaf after the first layer of resin almost hardened as you can see the picture below, after done attaching the fibreglass, another layer of resin will be fill on to the leaf to resolve the fibreglass. Now the leaf is ready for the next step for the finishing after it is really dry and hardened. The process of hardening will take about 45 minutes to 1 hour depends on the catalyst drops (hardener), the more drops of the catalyst in the resin will shorten the period of hardening. Above is the semi finished resin leaf tray that had been done by Pak Fajar Harsana and his crew at only 4 days. Below is the picture of Pak Fajar Harsana, Hafiz Razak (the designer team), and me, discussing on how to produce an instant product by using resin.

This is a made in China bangle, it is made of resin and around it dots of Checz stones. It is a simple product that produce by China manufacture and it has been sold all around the globe. Below is an Environmental Installation Art by John Dahlsen, he is an environmental artist and a contemporary painter. The item below is a public art work materials sample, made from plastic found objects that embedded in yellowing resin.

Back to Malaysia we further the research and developing products from resin and combining with all kind of natural and synthetic materials and surrounding our country. After a year of developing, we invented a resin toiletries set using resin combine with rubber leaf and silver threads. This product is produced in Felda Jengka Pahang by a production team that we had developed there. In order to fulfill the high end market this product was design as a premium item.

Below is a close up of the slices of palm oil friut that had been resin, The r&d leads by Hafiz Razak at about 5 months, and a lot of problems had occurred as to prevent the oil contacting with the resin chemical, and the products finally done in 2007.

But another problem after the product exist, the color of the palm oil fruit faded from time to time. Below is the picture of the ready 'Palm Oil Fruit Resin Toiletries Set'.

'Modern Rattan'

Nowadays rattan design is much different from yesterday. This is one of our latest design collection. Playing with modern colors is much fun to develop a craft products especially for rattan products. Rattan can easily being colored rather then other natural materials, mengkuang leave is also the same as rattan. It can be colored by using color pigment and boiling techniques. Picture below is one of our local rattan products manufacture in Felda Keratong 4, coloring his rattan.Before drying it under the sun as above, he is boiling the naked rattan. This process could take at about 4 hours untill the rattan colored well. If the coloring process done in less hours, the rattan color will not perform perfectly as the color spec, and the color durabality is not good, it will faded when open to sunlight.Below are some of the color specs that had been done, but sometime we also use natural rattan (without colored) as our products.This is a rattan fruitbasket, made in Keratong 4, which design by us last year. However this month the product had been given new color that more catchy.Below is one of the range of this rattan products set. It is a rattan basket, latest design using 'crazy weaving' techniques. Using the same color as the rattan fruitbasket.I was surprise by the way their finished this basket, the weaving techniques by using bamboo skin to cover the edge and corners of this basket really creative. As a designer i didnt learn in depth on the finishing part, the production always know better when it comes into the technical part. However design will come first before technically producing sample and products. This rattan fruitbasket is 2feet long and 13inch wide. And the rattan basket is 13inch square.

The rattan basket comes in two design which are with one handle and the other one had two handle. The 'Sirih Bowl'

Sirih is a leaves that being used for a long long time in Asia. Sirih leaves are consumed with betel nuts. They are used to counter the sharpness of betel nuts.

Vernacular names
The betel leaf is known as Paan in Urdu/Hindi, and Taambuul and Nagavalli in Sanskrit. Some of the names in the regions in which it is consumed are: Vetrilai Tamil,Tamalapaku Telugu, Vidyache pan Marathi, veeleya/vilya Kannada, Vettila Malayalam, Plū Mon, Malus Tetum, Maluu Khmer, Plue Thai, Malus Tetum, Bulath Sinhalese, Malu Tokodede, Bileiy Divehi, bulung samat Kapampangan language, daun sirih Malay language, Papulu Chamorro and Trầu Vietnamese. In Malaysia they are used to treat headaches, arthritis and joint pain. In the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia and China they are used to relieve toothache. In the Philippines, they are used specifically as a stimulant. In Indonesia they are drunk as an infusion and used as an antibiotic. They are also used in an infusion to cure indigestion, as a topical cure for constipation, as a decongestant and as an aid to lactation

Sirih also had been used in Malaysia as a tradition in wedding ceremony. Sirih decoration is a must in wedding gifts for the ceremony.
From the Sirih leaves, influence me to create 'The Sirih Bowl'. This is a glass bowl that covered with brass metal frame with sirih leaves design.
The brass metal part is made by a metal crafter in Felda. It takes several weeks for him to realizing my design, however it can produce more quantities after doing this sample of products.

This 'Sirih Bowl' can be touch up a little bit by plating it either in silver or gold.

I will send it to plating and futher the design range to other related products as tissue holder and others. Will update you guys soon!

Woodcarving in Thailand

During my visit to Thailand, i had seen a lot of craft products, in Thailand they made almost everything from natural resources, silver making, natural silk, jade, diamonds and stones, terracotta, bamboo, lacquerware and others. What do i really interested here which is the finest of woodcarving. Thailand is one of the most biggest exporter in craft products industry, beside Indonesia and Philippines also had a big share in this pie. Wood Carving Industry is the specialty in Thailand, thay also had a number of raw material for this industry.

I visited a wood factory in Chiangmai (north of Thai), this growing industry spare a lot of job vacancies for their locals, theres no limits as this carving job for male only. Its open to anybody who had the passion to carved wood.

This young lady here is very passionate in wood carving, her work is very fine and her most favorite is carving flower motifs. She carved this wooden table slowly untill its done.

Thailand Wood Carving had an identity in their motifs, from my observation, most of the motifs are from religious motifs. Some of them carving scenery like villages, forest, and trees. This is one of the village scenery carved on a piece of wood.

But this guy dont even had any skecthes. Below is finish carving of forest scenery, you can see the layers of the carving made it apear 3D.
Not even decorations, they also made furnitures from wood that enchance with their carving specialty motifs.

It is so exiting when looking these two foreign child learning carving from them! They also willing to teach people that intrested in carving. These two little brother and sister is so eager to carved by their own, its so funny to see them quarelling to take turn to do the carving.

I do really hope Malaysians woodcraft industry could be growing as big as Thailand. Malaysia also had pottential in woodcarving, i had seen and visit some wood products producer in arround Malaysia and they seems to be good in carving. Malaysia also had a big number of woods supply, it must be not problem in raw material for this industry. Below is a unique wooden bottlecase done in Thailand.

Below: Carved bowl that produced for the worlwide market from Thailand. However I really appreciate craft products from any country as long as it had a value of finest quality. I enjoy this visit to Thailand and keen to had a second trip, it was so enjoyable and a lot of experience that I had learned. Designing Landscape For Prime Minister Visit

This coming 7th July 2009, our Prime Minister will visiting Felda Maokil to launch the 'Edible Garden' programme and at the same time launching the 'Felda Settlers Day'. This year concept is to highlight the garden that grows in every house compound.
'Edible Garden' is a garden that can be eat, the concept is to grow vegetables in house compound with garden and beautiful landscape.

The idea came up for me to combine other elements in this edible garden landscape. I manage to put a small polytank pond with wood covered in a small scale, to outcome natural feel in this landscape. I also draw a pergola to hang the crawing vege as cucumber and others.Every house had their own size of compound, not all are suitable for the standard format that i draw, so i done a custom layout for three special house that will be visit by our prime minister. Most of the houses have their own tree but with diffrent location, so i use those trees as their originality and create the landscape with it. Below area is the pathway that will be pass through by our prime minister, he will use this way to enter the main launching stage, so i design a walk through pergola for our minister to feel the real vegetables hangging and he must love to touch it!

Along the sideways, the whole block of houses (arround 9 houses) will built up a pergola gateway entrance. However every houses were planted with a minimal budget, and as usual a designer must create the best design with the minimal money usage!

Packaging For Traditional Cookies

Hye guys! Sorry for late updating my blog..last week my schedule was kinda tight, so i manage to update it tday! Latest of my work is re-packaging our lovely traditional cookies, these are the most favorite cookies among Malaysians (i guess so). The 'Rempeyek', 'Kuih Seri Bulan', and the 'Kuih Bakar'. After doing some research at almost all hypermarkets in arround Kuala Lumpur, hundreds of packaging of these cookies exist in the market. However 95% of them looks almost the same, its hard to differentiate all of it. Heres come a business guy from Perak that wanted me to design for him an outstanding label that differ from normal label of local cookies products. And his main objective is to put our local product at the same level of the international products.

In order to compete, i create this label for him and now the 'Kuih Seri Bulan' and 'Rempeyek Asli' is already in the market. What surprising me was the feedback, the sale increasing 200% from normal sales amount. Hope to hear good news again after launching this latest design of 'Kuih Bakar' packaging.

Kebaya Design for Barbara

Malaysian market in fashion is growing bigger, the pie is getting larger when foriegn fashion industry dare to put a large amount of shares here. Day by day our local learns to appreciate fashion a lot, i can say Malaysians are much more intelligent in fashion these days. However our traditionals also getting much quality with highly fashionable and style, as kebaya design that spark by 'Barbara J' fashion house yet illustrated by my fiance for this coming Hari Raya.

Mix and match materials, from modern fabrics combine with classic style enhancing our traditional kebaya into an evergreen style. Polkadots baby blue with white top makes it my most favorite!Cutting the illustration to be paste on the board for clean expression of our presentation.This black and grey satin overcome old-fashioned kebaya looks.After cutting, the models were paste on a frame board.But before that gluing process using spraymount. This polkadots silk combined with biege top kebaya is a great choice.Set A (above) shows plane sets of kebaya with dark range fabrics. Set B (below) shows the bright colored range of kebaya. Atieone' Gold

Made of 18k gold, weight at about 7gm. Was specially fabricate for a customer that prefer a class of his own, with combining his name and his lovely wife name influence me to design the 'Atione'.'Atione' is a very fine handmade gold ring, the inner layer surface was blasted with sandy textured. And the upper layer font surface clean with shinning gold.It takes time to finish this 'Atione' when comes to detailing parts especially the fonts, and the and product quality. Smaller size of this ring we increasing the workmanship cost, however bigger ring will increasing the material cost.

Tie Clip & Brooch for Kesas

This is a set of Tie Clip & Cufflinks and a piece of Brooch, I designed it specially for Kesas Highway annual dinner corporate gift. It was made of sterling silver and plated with 18k gold. Kesas is a company thats operating highway in Kuala Lumpur, the highway connecting from Bukit Jalil to Kelang.
The Brooch is for the ladies and the tie clip & cufflinks are for the gents. The brooch had 10pcs of 2.0mm diameter of cubic zirconia and 3pcs of 3mm cubic zirconia, all are set pave'.The tie clip and cufflinks had a piece of 1.8mm of cubic zirconia each. The wording 'KESAS' and 'E5' was plated with white gold, it is to highlighten up the Kesas company name. The cufflinks was designed based from the Kesas logo, where the roads never ends!
However this fine box was made in Thailand, i ordered it specially with the gold printed of Kesas Highway logo as suggested by the CEO of Kesas. This project was done by me in 2004 while doing my Honest Degree in Jewelry Design in MARA University of Technology Shah Alam.

Custom Handbags DIY!

Today I would like to share with you guys how to make your own handbags! I will show you guys some simple steps and techniques that can be followed. This handbag had been done by me and my fiance with combining manmade and nature materials as Mengkuang' or known as 'Pandanus leaf', synthetic leather or known as vynil, 'Tie & Dye' fabric using 'batik' dye, strawboard as based material, and offcourse dunlop glue. Firstly glue the board surfaces all over and let it dry for a few minutes. Before that cut the board depend on whut size do u want your handbag to be.

Then glue also on the 'tie&dye' fabric (backside) to be paste on the board. You also can used any material as you like rather than using this handmade 'tie&dye'. Then stick both glued surfaces together (the 'tie&dye' with the glued board). Remember to wait untill both glued surface really dried before you paste it together.
And the result should be like this:

For this handbag i pasted a layer of vynil at the bottom of the bag for more durablity:
Next is to paste another piece of vynil on the left and the right of the bag (the hollow side). Always remember to put both surface with glue and wait untill it dried before sticking it together.

And the result should be like this:

Now its time to make the accessories for this bag. Im using a piece of 'Mengkuang' woven and make it into belts: fold both side and glued it together:

After making the 'mengkuang' belt, i paste it onto the bag as shown below, always remember to glue both side of the material and wait untill it really dried before sticking it together.

Then to make this bag more intresting, I decided to paste another layer of 'mengkuang' at the bottom of the bag.

Cut the remnnence and fold the end properly.

You can add any accessories for your bag such as studded, zip, buttons, anything that u wish! Now the bag is ready to use or for runaway acessory! Thats all for today, Gud luck and happy trying!

The Prime Minister's Ideology Transforming Felda's Craftpeople

On every 7th Julai at every year, Felda organizing the 'Settlers Day'. It is the most important yearly event for Felda. This convention participating international delegates and also among all Felda settlers.

My Job is to create a display that shows the future of handicrafts products that made by Felda settlers. This task is a phsycologic game for me to answer the point of the main idea of our former Deputy Prime Minister (now our new PM) Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak.

His idea, and im the realizer. So i create a concept of future display for this showcase with minimal budget, and the concept is garden living open space with the tag 'Modern Living'.

The garden living opens up people mind from stereotype living in a hallroom! lets get out from the hall and enjoy our living in a friendly eco lifestyle!

The 'S' Ring

So far this ring is the most wanted ring among my friends! They are the Suzuki Swift Owners, it is because the ring had the Suzuki logo on it with cubic zirconia. It really look nice on them, i have done 10 pcs of this ring. The price is about RM5xx (silver material white gold plated with cubic zirconia) depends on your size.

Teaching In Design Is Not That Easy

In order to create a good product, it must be start from a good design. However a good product must be done with a good workmanship. To get a good workmanship product, it must be done by a good product maker. And my job to educate Felda's Crafters in design basic to make my job easier to develop a product.

This design seminar was held in Felda Residence Port Dickson with 30 participants, all of them are Felda Craftpeople that participating in producing our products. Most of them are our senior citizen, why? maybe the only people in our country that intrested to fabricating handicraft products. But there are also new blood in this group that really passion ni making handcraft, they are from the graduates of Institut Kemahiran Negara (IKN), for me they are a good learner eventhough they didnt learn in depth about designing but they still have a design brain that could be polish.

Thats for the new generation crafter, but for the senior generations they are still classic mind of design, as example for them 'balance' is really need the same at the left and right, for them a product must be full with decoration, and most of the products are one in a million. Here to grow the market in malaysian's handicraft we need products that can be produce in volume in a production line, and these kind of products must be very simple and attractive, functional, and must keep the aesthetic value in it. The design must be up to date following the trend and also fashionable.

To upgrade their mind is a big job, we have to capture from the roots of them..sometimes we even need to learn their dialects, they come from all over part of our contry mostly from the village where their main activities is farming. From the situation here, we had created simple technics and visualization that physically understood and always stick in thier head. We cant simple give them from written from designing books, we have to play with psychology to educate them. Before that could happen, i have to study the human behavior psychology to scan their minds. For me teaching in design is need full mind and body control, not just for me but to control the whole subjects including the students.

As a youth in this country with knowledge and talent gifted, i would be very happy to share all of my experience in design to all off people that never stop learning in life. Its time to pay back to the nation, 'dont ask whut our country had provided to us, lets ask whut do we contribute to our nation' .And for me learning process will never ends. Hope to futher my Phd in designing after married.

Craft Gallery

This craft gallery named 'Modern Malaysian Craft Gallery by FELDA'.. here we display and sell all the handicraft products that design by me, Hafiz and Nazren. Untill now we have 151 range of products with 636 items that had been developed and sell at this gallery. However these products were all been made by Felda craft people as their non-farm activities, as we all know that Felda main activity is farming.

I designed this gallery layout on July 2005, which partly displaying home deco concept products that based from it function wheather in bedroom, dining, bathroom, and also displaying for high end products area as songket and tenun.
This is the bedroom area display, which i choose to use black as the main color, as i manage to design a set of red bedsheet with 'Pucuk Rebung' embroided pattern on it, this set comes with a bed spread, bed cover, 2 pillow cover. Additional accessory as cushion cover, cushion and bed runner sold saparately.

The wooden bed was designed by me and being done in Felda Kemahang, Kelantan by a wood crafter, it was made from solid wood and the bed panel was carved with bamboo pattern. Both left and right table lamp is made from pebbles stones coverd by resin which is made in Felda Jengka, Pahang by our resin crafter. Those three rounded mirror had 'Pucuk Rebung' carved arround it, and it is made by our glass & mirror crafter in Felda Sg. Sibol, Johore and designed by me.
Most of the umbrella was designed by Hafiz, we have a wooden umbrella that sells at RM36. This is the display area for the umbrella that i designed.
We designed these rattan products with variety of catchy colors as yellow, orange, apple green, so that consumer would not be boring with dull colors or usually rattan were uncolored. Our rattan were designed with modern shapes and unique kind of weaving patterns. However this section for rattan products i designed it to fit all rattan products in a section, since rattan products were the most many items. We have rattan tray, rattan fruit bowl, rattan food cover, and rattan laundry basket.

The dining area that i designed is and open island concept, with solid wood dining table. On the table is embroided 'Pucuk Rebung' pattern tableware which comes with table runner, coasters, platemat. Those standings are wooded candle holder which made from our wood crafter in Felda Laka Selatan somewhere in Alor Star, Kedah, the same person of the wooden table maker. And the apples that placed in the rattan friut bowl is made of wood from our wood maker in Kuantan.

This is an open concept display for our bathroom area, the mission is to show the function of the products displayed bathroom set products such as soapdish, soap dispenser, toothbrush holder, tissue box. All the bathroom set display was made from resin and rubber leaf, and on the upper side displayed a rounded 'Pucuk Rebung' carved wall mirror suitable for bathroom use.

The Bamboo Bathroom Set

Me and my crew Hafiz & Nazren, design and developed 'The Bamboo Bathroom Set' first when we started in December 2005. The idea came when we visited one of our craft production center in Lurah Bilut, Pahang. At that moment we never know that is not that easy in developing products. Not as simple as drawing on paper.

After years we discovered that a lot of elements have to be considered in developing handmade products especially when dealing with natural material as bamboo. Bamboo is a very sensitive material, it cant simply being used without any treatment that must be done to prevent termites.

Above picture shows one of the bamboo production worker cleaning a bamboo's skin using blades.

Is tricky when comes to combination of materials, bamboo+metal. The first step is to try and error all materials that had been collected. In mass prodduction we also have to think bout the parts supplier and pricing.

We decided to make soap dish, tissue holder, toothbrush holder, canister, and soap dispenser.

After almolst a year of research and development this prototype (unfinish product) came out.

The final touch of the Bamboo Bathroom Set came with a wooden box, this item is suitable for gifts, however until now this product is still cant be sell, because after a year of testing, the product will be attack by termites, they will eat the inner side of the bamboo and the bamboo dust will came out from the product!. Thats a bad reputation for the producer/seller. In the meantime one of the designer Nazren just back from Oita Japan learned about bamboo and producing bamboo products. I really hope he could clear all the problems that occured.

The Engagement Ring

This is an engagement ring, it is made of white gold, and arround it covered with rounded 2.5mm (rose cut) diamonds. However it can be done in any materials such as sterling silver or even 24k gold.

this ring will cost at only RM550 with Sterling Silver with White Gold plated, and cubic zirconium.

the Songket Jewelry

The Songket Jewelry invented by me in in the year 2005 , when i was doing my Masters in Design Technology. Songket Jewelry is my thesis project that supervised by Prof. Mohainee Khalid. A lot of idea that had been thrown by her to help me in advancing and developing new subject in world of jewelry, which combing new material in fabricating jewelry.

Songket is a herritage fabric in Malay's history, the art of making Songket fabric is very deep from the way it being weaved. Songket is a fabric that used to be the official fabric among Royal Families of Malay Kingdom, it is very expansive and the quality is very fine. At another word 'Songket is as good as gold'. Thats makes me use this 'gold fabric' to fabricate jewelry.

However to create a Songket Jewelry need a lot of experimental in techniques. This fabric is not suitable in cleaning process of normal jewelry that need to be heated, no jointing process (soldering) can be done to combing metal and fabric.

From my research one of the best way is using resin, the effect of shining resin will enhance the gold threads of this fabric. Resin will hardened this fabric and makes easier to handle. The copper wire was coiled arround the songket end, and also arround the pearl bead makes this 'Songket Pendant' looks more intresting.

Untill now i did manage to develop more design of 'Songket Jewelry' depends from my customer's request. It's kind a hard to get Songket material since it is very expansive, but it is better if i could find reminence of songket from tailor that making songket dress for Malay wedding or others.

I'm designing everything like under the sun! ..from graphic works as book cover, backdrops, banners, buntings.. interiors designing for roadshows as booth and pavilions.. outlets deco and shop layouts (display artist).. and developing local handmade products using materials such as mengkuang/pandanus leaf, songket & tenun pahang (malay traditional fabric), pebbles, wood, and any materials that can be done into handmade products (product developer job)..

where do i come from?
My basic is a jewelry designer..and im really into jewelry designing!..i love to create and fabricating jewelry to be sell! most of my designs are modern jewelry..and my design will be based from the owner/buyer taste..i consult people that want to have their own special jewelry..that will never have in shops..and the most interesting..i can combine materials like songket + silver/metal = Songket Jewelry..now that's my own formula to be different in the market..

My intention is to share with u guys out there no matter that ur a designer or not..anything that i do and design!..hope u guys enjoy here and willing to share experience with me! yeahhoo!
